Over the last ten years there has been an increase in the frequency of drought in Kenya, with the Northern and North Eastern parts of the country bearing the brunt. This has increased the vulnerability of the population living in that region; as many people in the region are pastoralists, loss of livestock due to drought or disease seriously hampers their ability to survive. Marsabit is the 4th poorest county in Kenya with 75.8% of its population living below the poverty line. It’s estimated that only 15% of Marsabit’s population has permanent access to safe drinking water.
